Abstract

As data increasingly become a key factor of production, the data-element industrial chain encompassing data collection, processing, circulation, and application has continued to expand. This paper systematically reviews research on data elements, industrial linkages, and corporate disruptive innovation, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms through which the data-element industrial chain may shape disruptive innovation via knowledge acquisition and recombination, factor allocation, and industrial linkages. Existing studies remain limited in measuring firm-level participation, capturing heterogeneity in industrial-chain participation, and identifying underlying mechanisms. Future research may further examine the intensity and depth of firms’ participation in the data-element industrial chain, heterogeneity across different chain segments, and the mechanisms through which such participation affects disruptive innovation.
