This study examines the relationship between corporate ESG performance and corporate performance using a sample of China’s A-share listed companies from 2011 to 2023. Multiple regression analyses and mediation effect models are employed to test the hypothesized relationships, with further heterogeneity analyses conducted from the perspectives of high-tech industries and ownership structure. The findings reveal that: Corporate ESG performance exhibits a significant positive correlation with corporate performance; Corporate innovation acts as a mediating pathway in the relationship between ESG performance and corporate performance; The positive association between ESG performance and corporate performance is more pronounced in high-tech firms compared to non-high-tech firms; Non-state-owned enterprises demonstrate a stronger ESG-performance linkage relative to state-owned enterprises.
